First Pentecostal Church was founded in Hanford, CA in 1948 by Rev. & Mrs. William H. Garrett. The first congregation met in a tent on Davis street. Some time later property was obtained on Home Avenue in the Home Garden neighborhood and the first church building was erected. The congregation enjoyed many years of service to the community from that location. In 1974 Rev. & Mrs. Harvey Cantrell was elected as pastor and still serve as elder-pastor to date. In 1986 the church purchased the worship facilities that it currently occupies at 429 W. Elm Street. In 1996 the Rev. & Mrs. Gaylen Cantrell was elected as pastor. New property was purchased in 2004 on Hanford-Armona road just West of 12th Avenue with freeway frontage on Highway 198 and the congregation is actively moving toward the construction of a new worship center at that site.
First Pentecostal Church is a vibrant congregation of spirit-filled believers with the ultimate objective of fulfilling the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ.
